Two Days at Sea (February 25, 2016 & February 26, 2016)

Reading Length: Afternoon Cuppa Tea

Kristin Reporting!

The 25th:

As you can imagine, we slept in after being up til 2AM. I think it was 10:30AM, but somehow by the time we finished breakfast is was after noon! We had our delicious home made french toast again. Yum, yum, yum. Sadly, there are only two pieces left. About time to say goodbye to this small taste of home. /sigh

We didn’t do anything of note today– just worked.

We passed some islands
Today we learned that the gym on this ship closes at 8pm! It's outrageous! Davin did cardio on the exercise bike. I started with my physical therapy. I couldn't believe how HARD it was! I checked the calendar and it must have been 3 weeks since I did it last due to getting sick on the ship on the last week of our Pacific Ocean cruise, and then the Sydney touring. You really lose that kind of flexibility FAST!

We went to a show at 10:30pm. This show was an acrobatic, aerial choreographed dancing couple– like Cirque du Soleil style but with only two people. The show was great! It was a couple from Russia called Duo Deja Vu.

[Davin Interjection: Duo Deja Vu was really good.  I’m always impressed by how easily these acrobats can perform their movements.  They obviously have complete control over their bodies in a way that I never could, even if I worked at it constantly.  People obviously have very different talents.

Another thing that always strikes me about these sorts of people is their physiques. While obviously fit, and extremely strong, they are far from the “ripped bodybuilder” look we see in movies.  If you just saw them on the street, you wouldn’t necessarily realize they were anything more than a normal, fit person.

The man actually was a pretty good singer too, although I think he was singing a Russian song, as I couldn’t really understand what he was saying (some of it may have been English, but I couldn’t make any sense of the overall song).]

The 26th:

Today I went to a two hour craft class! I'm being so outgoing! (We went to two nights of shows in a row, and now this!) This craft class interested me because it was the chance to do Australian dot painting. I had seen souvenir wooden boomerangs with dot art all over the place in Sydney. I didn't buy one because I didn't think they were working boomerangs and the smallest one was about 5 inches long and cost $12.00. But, when I saw this craft class advertised, I thought "How cool to get the opportunity to do it myself!”

The craft classes have what is described as a "nominal fee". I got more info on that and apparently the fee is always in units of $8.00 (and will be $8, $16, or $24 depending on the class). Today was $8.00. I decided to pay it for the chance to play with paint and make a unique card for my Scott! I think it turned out quite nicely. (Scott was happy to receive my card on April  9, 2016.)

I also went ahead and joined the passenger choir. They call the group: ‘Singers at Sea’. It was a lot of fun! I'm basically the youngest person there (of course!). The sheets of music don't have any notes on them. To embellish the songs they sometimes have only men sing, sometimes only women, and usually split the choir into parts on the last 3-5 notes of the song for an impressive finale. Although I've experienced it many times, it always amazes me what happens when you get a group of 50 people together who CAN SING. Even just singing the same simple melody together sounds great! It feels good to sing, it's melodic to the ears, and it’s just all around a good time.

We also went into the jacuzzi this evening. It was super lame this time. Not even worth going in. We went in once a few nights ago and after 40 minutes of soaking we eventually got hot– not this time.

I wrapped up the evening by watching 2 episodes of Babylon 5, while writing some postcards at the same time.

[Davin Interjection: On these sea days, I primarily focus on working on my story.  Although I sometimes get burned out, I actually seem to get quite a bit done on these ships, where there is nothing to distract me.  I hope to have the first 1/5th or 1/4th of my story written and revised to acceptable quality by the end of the trip.]
